Henna For Hunger Fundraiser

During the lunch hours of June 11 to June 14, 2012, Brigitte Wodrich and several JCS artists hosted a “Henna for Hunger” campaign. Students were able to purchase henna tattoos which were applied under the supervision of our Henna-Master, Mrs. D'Souza. Henna is a natural herb and has been used for centuries as an ancient Indian art form. The henna used in the tattoos is 100% pure with no additives. These fade over time and there are no remnants of them after a few days. Prices ranged from $3.00 - $10.00 depending on the size of the pattern. Parents were also welcome to take part in this event as well.

All of the proceeds were donated to the “Buy a Bowl of Soup” campaign organized by the Ukrainian Social Services of Canada. This is a particularly apt charity this year as the extreme cold in Ukraine this winter resulted in the hundreds of deaths. The money that we raised this year will enable the Social Services to be prepared for future catastrophes of this nature. One tattoo will provide a warm meal for someone in need.
