Toronto Catholic District School Board

Ukrainian

One of the distinctive qualities of our school is found in its foundation in the Ukrainian culture, tradition and liturgical practices. We begin our year with a Moleben, a shortened liturgical service. Here our Bishop, His Excellency Stephen Chmilar, Eparch of Toronto and Eastern Canada, celebrates with our priests, Fr. Roman Lobay and Fr. Oleh Kachur. Thus, the focus for the year is set. Our academic programs include Ukrainian language daily, with the kindergarten students receiving a half day of instruction in Ukrainian and our students in grades 1-8, receiving 30 minutes of Ukrainian instruction. In addition to the curriculum, the students celebrate the Feast Days of St. Nicholas, Christmas, Jordan, and Easter in traditional ways. Lastly, the connection established with Ukrainian charitable institutions enable our students to become acquainted with the needs of others.
