Josyf Cardinal Slipyj Honours Holodomor

This is the 84th year of the commemoration of the Holodomor – the Ukrainian genocide of 1932-33 – when over 7 to  10  million Ukrainians, men women and children, were starved to death.  It took many years for the Western nations to recognize that the Holodomor was an act of Genocide against the Ukrainian people. Every year the world commemorates the victims of the Holodomor on the 4th Saturday in November, and in schools on Friday, November 24th.
On November 24th, students at Josyf Cardinal Slipyj School paid tribute to our Ukrainian ancestors, who they were, and their courageous fight and personal sacrifice for their political, religious and moral beliefs.  We honoured the memories of these brave people that were forced to die of hunger.  As proud Ukrainians living in a free country, we need to keep remembering and solemnly honour this tragic event in Ukrainian history.  The morning was commemorated with a Ukrainian Panchida (memorial service) performed by Father Kachur and student readers informing the students of the tragic events.
