On Thursday, November 14, in an effort to stand in solidarity and faith with students of Filipino descent and their friends and families affected by Typhoon Haiyan, students in the Grade 11 Peer Mentorship/Leadership classes at Loretto Abbey C. S. S. coordinated the "1000 Prayers of Hope" initiative.
Under the direction of the grade 11 leaders, each student in the school wrote a prayer or hope-filled message on a paper chain link. Students connected their links to those of their classmates, and the class chains were then connected to form a beautiful school chain. The chain, a symbol of unity and strength, is a reminder of the importance of community and faith in times of despair.
The "Chain of Hope" is currently on display on the second floor of the school. It will then be delivered to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
In addition, the grade 11 leaders are collecting donations in kind for the Philippines. All donations will be directed to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, to be shipped to affected areas in the Philippines.
