Toronto Catholic District School Board

Test Scores
Though McLuhan is a relatively new school in the TCDSB, our students have demonstrated academic excellence, reflected in our test scores and statistics.
Literacy Test
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, or OSSLT, is a skills test based on the reading and writing expectations in all subject areas up to the end of Grade 9. The test is mandatory for all students in Grade 10 and must be passed as a requirement to graduate in secondary schools all across Ontario.
Educators at McLuhan prepare students for the OSSLT with programs such as “Literacy Wednesdays” and after school literacy help for Grade 10s preparing to write the test.
In past years, the preparation for the OSSLT has been successful. In 2009, 87% of Grade 10 students were successful in passing the test. Teachers anticipate the success rate will continue to grow as the years progress.

For more information on the OSSLT, please contact the head of literacy, Ms. Christine Borowski.
In Grade 9, students in Ontario participate in a mandatory EQAO math assessment. This test tracks the progress of McLuhan students in comparison to schools in both our district and in the province.
The McLuhan mathematics department strives to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge to succeed in writing the EQAO math assessment.
