Scholarships and Awards

  • Kris Todi, a 2013 McLuhan graduate, is one of six Canadians attending his first year at Yale University with a $200,000 scholarship!


  • Since joining the Yale Community, Kris Todi has won Best Delegate at both the Harvard National Model United Nations and WorldMUN International conferences and has served as the Director General at one of Yale’s flagship Model United Nations conferences, hosted in Brussels, last fall!


  • Nicolas Bernal, a 2014 graduate, was awarded the Dr. Iris May Marsh Memorial Award by Queen’s University worth $48,000!


  • The graduating class members of 2014, were the recipients of more than $70,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education!


  • Sanziana Andreica, a 2013 McLuhan graduate, received both the Queen's Chancellor Scholarship and the Miller Thompson Scholarship for a total of $40,000.00!


  • Clare MacDonald, a 2013 graduate, was a semi-finalist for the Loran National Scholarship Award!


  • Christine Wadsworth, a McLuhan alumna, was the recipient of the Loran National Scholarship Award worth $70,000.  Christine is now a practicing lawyer!


  • Mandifro De LaCruz, a 2013 graduate, and recipient of a $12,000 scholarship from York University, is presently an Honours student and an Ambassador for the Shulich School of Business!


  • Iris Pereira, a 2013 graduate, was named the top female Engineering student by the University of Toronto at the end of her first year!


  • Sabrina Davis, the Head of Guidance, was named an exceptional leader and mentor by Yale University.  She was one of two Canadian educators given this honour and one of 38 counsellors world-wide!


  • Michael Xuereb, Teacher/Guidance Counsellor, received a National Award from The Asper Foundation for developing and leading our Human Rights Program!


  • Tiffany Toussiant, an Advanced Placement student, placed in the top six in the English speaking category of the Poetry in Voice National Competition held in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Furthermore, Tiffany’s success led to an invitation to recite the poem War at this year’s Luminato Festival!


  • Our Gr.11 and Gr.12 drama students participated in the Sear’s Festival.  Aaronne Navarro won the Best Director award and Emily Silano won the Best Costume award!

  • The school’s ECO Team was awarded the Bronze certification!

  • Sabrina Rocha and Samuel Simon placed 3rd in the Toronto Science Fair with their project on the effects of Vitamin C! Academics, Special Programs, Events, and Clubs!

  • More than 100 AP exams have been written since the Advanced Placement program began!

  • Harmony Crawford, Carolyne Barker, Marley Brooke, and Victoria Luongo presented the experimental findings of their four-month experiment to two panels of judges at the regional competition of the Sanofi-BioGENEius Challenge. Working closely with Dr. Bharati Bapat and two Ph.D. students at Mount Sinai, these students conducted university-level research in the area of colon cancer!

  • Junior and Senior students participate in the University of Waterloo Math Contests each year!

  • Grade 11 AP students wrote the University of Waterloo’s Avogadra Chemistry exam!

  • Grade 12 U students wrote the University of Waterloo’s Sir Isaac Newton Physics exam!

  • For more than a decade, Marshall McLuhan C.S.S. has participated in the “I Choose Program”.  It is part of the Asper Foundation Human Rights and Holocaust Studies Program.  Leonard and David Asper have both visited our school!

  • Larry Tanenbaum’s support for McLuhan’s Human Rights and Holocaust studies programs reached $40,000 with his contribution last year!

  • Through library workshops and campus visits, McLuhan CSS is developing a strong relationship with St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto! 

  • Marshall McLuhan C.S.S. offers three High Skills Major Programs in the areas of Information/Communication and Technology, Social Justice (Non-Profit), and Sports!

  • Our Business Department attends the Women in Capital Markets Conference and our grade 12 accounting students attend Ontario's largest Accounting Career Conference!

  • Shelly Adler, a well-known Canadian artist, donated her portrait of Marshall McLuhan featured on the Douglas Copeland Biography to Marshall McLuhan C.S.S.! 

  • Each year more than 100 students participate in Model United Nations tournaments held in the city!
  • Ten McLuhan students participated in DECA, an international youth business tournament, at the provincial level last year and more than twenty are registered to compete in the Regionals this year!
  • Marshall McLuhan C.S.S. continued their tradition of participation in Toronto’s Nuit Blanche 2014.  This year, Grade 12 students contributed an artwork to the PROJECT REACH installation located at the University of Toronto!


  • McLuhan students have travelled to Washington, New York, Los Angeles, and are planning to spend the March Break in Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Rome and Capri!
  • Beyond academics, we take care of the whole child, promoting emotional and physical well-being!


  • Eric Ferreira won gold at OFSAA for Junior Boys Shot Putt!
  • Dylan Ritter was the 200m WC Champion winning gold at OFSAA!
  • Ezana Wossen won silver in the Junior Boys 400m and bronze for the 800m at OFSAA!
  • Troy Lindsay, a member of McLuhan’s Soccer Team, was signed this summer by the Bolton Wanderers FC of the professional English Football Championship League!
  • The Junior Boys track and field team finished 6th in the province!
  • The Rebels Hockey Team earned silver medals in the TCSDB finals!
  • Members of the McLuhan Ultimate Frisbee team were the TDCAA Varsity League Champions!
