 Welcome from the Principal…

Dear Grade 8 parents/guardians and students,

Welcome to Marshall McLuhan! I am pleased that you have taken this time to explore our school as your child's future secondary school.  We have a tradition of providing students with a safe, welcoming environment that challenges them academically, shapes them emotionally and guides them spiritually.  Our mission follows in the tradition of a great contemporary Catholic thinker, Marshall McLuhan.

We are committed to preparing students for success in secondary school and their post-secondary ventures.  We offer a wide variety of academic and co-curricular programs for all of our students that will make them life-long learners and contributing members of society.  Our Congregated AP Program and our three Specialist High Skills Major Programs offer our students the opportunity to further expand their knowledge and give them experiences that will benefit them once they graduate from our school. Our graduates embody the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations and become reflective, creative and holistic thinkers who know how to work collaboratively with others and recognize the importance of being caring family members and responsible citizens.  Through the diversity of our community, we learn to appreciate the uniqueness and goodness of each person and to experience the presence of God in our encounters with our neighbours both on a local and global level.  We strive for excellence in academics, student leadership, athletics and the arts in addition to providing opportunities for students to excel in their own unique interests.

We provide a rich experience for our incoming Grade 9 students to help make the transition from elementary to secondary school a positive one.  Our students participate in a summer transition program in which students are able to earn a credit, while making new friends, learning about the Marshall McLuhan community and the expectations of high school.  In September, Grade 9s participate in welcome activities and attend a retreat and orientation day at Camp Robin Hood Leadership Centre.  Throughout the year, different assemblies, presentations and activities also help to make the transition a positive experience.

The opportunities at Marshall McLuhan are numerous.  I invite you to spend some time reviewing the information posted on our school website and I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions.  I look forward to welcoming your child to the Marshall McLuhan community in September.
