Toronto Catholic District School Board

Isabel Ng-Lai is this year’s receipeint of the 2012 Student Award for her leadership and positive impact in her school community. The award is administered yearly by the Chinese Community Liaison Committee (CCLC).
Isabel is a grade 12 student at Mary Ward CSS, and has recently accepted an offer for York's Schulich School of Business, along with a $24,000 scholarship.
In only two years at Mary Ward, Isabel has proven an invaluable leader, role model and peer mentor.  She is an active member of the school community, in both her academics as well as co-curricular activities.  Last year, Isabel participated in a TCDSB trip to India along with the Loretto Sisters where she taught English and Art to children in the local schools.  It was through this experience that she co-founded a charity, 1Focus, with another participant, which aims to raise money and awareness for a different cause each school year.
Over her two years at Mary Ward, Isabel has been the co-president of our DECA chapter, a senior mentor for the grade 9s transitioning to high school, a member of Free the Children and OKOF (social justice groups), a member of the dragon boat team and maintained high academic success, while holding a part time job. Isabel is a caring and compassionate young woman, who is definitely on a direct path to achieving all her social, educational and career goals!
Congratulations Isabel!
