Toronto Catholic District School Board

TODAY’S MATH HOMEWORK:
REMOVING THE INTIMIDATION FOR PARENTS
Returning to the kitchen table

A fun and informative evening of math activities designed to remove intimidation for parents and encourage family involvement in the application of math in everyday challenges takes place on May 22nd at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School.  Over 500 family members from 19 Toronto Catholic District School Board schools have already registered to attend.

TCDSB Math Coordinator, Kathy Kubota-Zarivnij will speak to parents about the kinds of mathematics students need to learn and are learning for the 21st century. Afterwards, families can drop in on sessions designed for students from JK to Grade 8. They will participate in fun, creative, interactive family learning, such as calculating how many Snap Cubes you need to build a 4 step and 10 step staircase without counting every cube.  In addition, parents will be given a new TCDSB booklet “How to Grow with the Learning".

TCDSB parents are being encouraged to “return to the kitchen table” and re-engage in their children’s learning at home.  They will be given the tools to make learning fun and creative with an activity that will encompass the whole family, no matter the age of the children.
