On November 26th, approximately 280 students at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School presented their best business ideas for a competition which involves 16 student-created companies in the Technology, Food, Go Green and Fashion & Accessory industries.  Each sector will have four companies that will be led by a group of senior Business and DECA Leadership Students.  Each company leader (CEO) recruited employees who will be contributing to their company through Marketing, Finance, Entrepreneurship and Technology.   Elementary students from nearby Epiphany of Our Lord and St. Henry Catholic  Schools also participated.

In just four short weeks, these young entrepreneurs are challenged to experience a simulated team environment in the world of work.  It allows them to exercise their skills in collaboration, innovation, critical thinking, communication, productivity and accountability.  It is an opportunity for students to bring their talents and expertise to the table as they build their portfolio of skills for their future.

A number of industry professionals joined us for the day to share their experiences, wisdom and expertise in the world of work.  They also acted as judges for the final competition which was similar to a “Dragon’s Den” show.

The top four teams were:  “Flux” (Technology) , “SLAY” (Fashion), “Seasonal Sweeties” (Food) and “Eco Clean” (Environment).  Eco Team was the big winner overall.

Teacher Marie Apostoli-Ventura organized the event for the Business Department
