Welcome to Week 33 (May 7-11)

We have had an amazing couple of weeks here at Ward.  This week, we look forward to the fantastic Art Show!  “Resonate” is open all week: Be sure to get your tickets!  Tickets are $5 for a week of access to all events, $8 for a T-shirt, and the Gala Special is $10 for a full-week access pass AND a T-Shirt.

Also, don’t forget to also check out some great school sports teams in action this week and note that we have a number of students involved in team sports.

 Reminders for the week:

  • Please remind students that five weeks remain to submit units and write tests.
  • Friday is the last day for excursions!
  • As we continue in this busy season of sporting events and excursions, we ask that you please follow up with your advisees in TA to remind them to carry an Epi-pen with them if they require one.  Feel free to ask that they show you their personal Epi-pen and if you continue to run into any hesitations; please send them to the office.

Kudos:

  • Congratulations goes out to the Business Department for a wonderful Marketing Fair filled with tasty treats and positive entrepreneurial spirit!
  • A big thank you to Anna Sersanti and her Safe Schools team for spearheading Mental Health Awareness Week.  There were a number of fantastic activities that occurred last week during lunch and we greatly appreciate all of the forums, discussions and guest speakers that attended the school.  Well done!
  •  Re: Asian Heritage Month’s celebration, thanks to

o   Kitty, JP, Mike C., and Sheri for the planning and auditioning of students performances for representing Mary Ward CSS at the Annual Expose at St. Joseph’s Morrow Park!

o   S. Mak for coordinating the themed morning prayers!

o   Kara for leading a team of students in putting together the interactive World Map “Friends around the World” display plus the information board with lots of interesting information about various parts of Asia!

o   Adam and Maureen for giving students opportunities to earn units by researching into Asian Canadians who have made a positive difference to our society and creating Bristol boards/posters for display throughout this month!

o   Anna S. for leading her Health Action Team of students and made smoothies out of ingredients popular in Asia for the tasting event that kicked off Asian Heritage Month celebration!

o   Lucy for coordinating with her ESL students in offering Asian Snacks Tasting events (one day a week there is a featured snack from an Asian country) during lunch time for four weeks!

o   John N. for encouraging participation by students from his Anime Club to offer our general student population full-length Japanese Animation Film instead of the usual short episodes for three Wednesdays after school during the month of May!

o   Mary-Lynn for inviting an Asian Film Director who was born in a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean to give a presentation that is open to all students. The director will speak to students about her work which explores how cultural expectations impact First generation Asian Canadians.
