Welcome to Week 11 (Nov 13-17)

We hope that everyone had an enjoyable weekend.  We have a number of events going on this week.   We would like to welcome back our staff and students who ventured out to Ottawa. We are certain you had a very memorable Remembrance Day experience in our Nation’s capital!

Reminders for the week:

  • As more and more students are lining up to take tests at the test center, please help the test center colleagues in speeding the process up by
      • Writing a comment re: accommodations on the test authorization email, e.g. ESL, IEP, extended time, etc., or
      • Writing a comment on the test slip re: accommodations on the test authorization email, e.g. ESL, IEP, extended time, etc. when you sign the test slip
  • Use this week’s Day A and Day B to have conversations with some students about lack of progress or possible disengagement in your course. It is a great opportunity to create a new plan and to invite the student(s) to re-engage with you. You may also wish to start conversations with your students about Invigor8 and what exciting ideas or learning they may wish to pursue. If you wish to hold off until after Nov 17 PA day, not a problem.
  • Reporting Cycle – Please strictly adhere to the dates and instructions outlined in the Memo sent out by Kathleen on Nov 9.  Web Marks is now ready to accept marks and a reminder that all marks are due on Monday, November 20. We have a short turnaround time. Please do your part.
  • Please submit your articles and/or photos to Nicole Powell for the upcoming edition of Happenings.  This is an excellent opportunity to highlight and promote your department, club, teams, and activities. Nicole needs these ASAP (Monday, Nov 13).
  • Lanyards – Please ensure all lanyards are collected at the end of the day and distributed during morning TA.  Your assistance in having your TAs wear their lanyards properly for the entire school day is most appreciated. If students have lost their lanyards they can buy a new one from Paulette Sousa for $2.
  • This week we celebrate Free the Children Week so please listen for some great announcements and be mindful of the some of the events taking place in the community.
  • Please focus this week on TA check out at the end of the day. Follow up with students who miss checking out. There is a legal obligation to check out properly.

TA Tip(s) of the week

Conditional Zero's catchy tunes get the students motivated to submit units at conditional zero target dates, but what else can we do to help motivate our advisees?

One way to motivate students is a unit submission challenge. You can challenge another TA or do a challenge within your own TA. For example, Ms. Weathers TA and Ms. Hayes TA will be battling it out to see who can submit the most amount of units for the month of December! The winning TA gets a prize and bragging rights.

Have a great week, everyone!
