Toronto Catholic District School Board

Welcome to Week 4 (Sep 25-29)

Weeks 1, 2, and 3 have been very smooth thus far.  Our students are completing units, the Test Centre is starting to pick up and our newcomers are beginning to feel at home!

Welcome back to Sue Sahlani who will be rejoining the special education department on Sep 28.

Reminders for the week:

  • No-Movement Time – Please do not permit students to leave your seminars or resource areas during no movement time and remind your TAs of when this is and what it means.  We also ask you to please have a quick look in your hallways and encourage students to get into an area.
  • Spot Checks - consider a spot check for your TA group in the next few weeks.  Be sure to discuss what a spot check is and how it works with your new students.
  • Sports Schedules – All Fall Coaches are asked to submit their schedules to Josie so we can enter the games in the Sports Calendar.
  • Sharing in Varia - Please email Kathleen a line or two for Varia, especially the Kudos section.
  • Annual Learning Plans (ALPs) – All permanent teachers should have their ALPs reviewed by their SBAT administrator and signed off by October 6.  Updates can be done throughout the year. It will not work on Google Chrome. Internet Explorer (IE) is recommended.
  • Opening Mass – We look forward to having Fr. Michael Lehman lead us in prayer on Thursday, Sep 28. Please speak to your TA group about the importance of attending Mass and BBQ activities to help build community.  This is NOT optional. SAC will have activities planned after the BBQ and will coordinate some TA activities.  We appreciate the participation and visibility of all teachers for the duration of the day.

Kudos:

  • A special thanks to all of our staff for your fine efforts for our first Fire Drill. Staff and students exited the building and got into assigned groups in good time. A reminder from the TA to the advisees re: no headphones/earbuds and talking are allowed while exiting building. Thanks also to the TAs for holding their TA group card up! It was a big help to students and also us, monitors, to find the various groups in a timely manner!

  • Thanks to TA committee and John Notten for their creativity in the TA flag initiative, and all TAs for their support in rolling the initiative out! This marks the beginning of a great tradition for years to come when each TA group gets to leave their mark on their very own TA flag!

  • Thanks to Nicole Powell and Lisa Bailey for organizing a Lunch-and-Learn on webmarks for colleagues new to our school. This timely session helps with planning for TA interviews and communicating progress with parents/students/custodians/colleagues amongst other things.

  • This will be a busy week for OASIS activities. Thanks to all those staff involved with OASIS in putting together such spectacular events for our Grade 9’s this week; your hard work is paramount in ensuring our new students feel welcomed into our community! OASIS is such an important part of helping our grade 9s feel a part of our community. Thanks in advance for all the craziness this week!

 TA Tip(s) of the week

A great way to organize your TA interviews is to create a schedule. Some TAs might prefer to assign each advisee a day in the Day 1-10 rotation, while others prefer to set their interviews two to three weeks in advance. Whatever option you choose, planning in advance lessens the possibility of cancellation due to schedule conflicts etc.

Be sure to create a catch-up day/plan for advisees who may be ill or absent for any reason on the day of their TA interview.

We are looking forward to seeing your TA flags.

Have a great week, everyone!
