Welcome to Week 9 (Oct 29-Nov 2)

As we dive into November, we have a very busy week ahead of us!

Reminders for the week:

·        We have some great festivities lined up for Wednesday thanks to SAC including the pumpkin decorating contest, TA Costume Raffle, student costume contest and an afternoon scary movie for students; we ask TA’s to please monitor students for appropriate dress wear for Halloween including no weapons, no masks and no provocative clothing.

1.     Halloween Movie- Periods 4-5, $2 per person (tickets sold at the door), initials from TA in agenda are required to enter, first come, first serve

2.     TA Costume Raffle- take a picture of your TA dressed in costume tweet @marywardsac or DM it to SAC on instagram or twitter. You will automatically be entered into a draw for a TA prize! All pictures must be entered before 12:00 pm.

3.     Pumpkin Decorating Contest- each TA class will be responsible for bringing in their own pumpkin and judging will take place at lunch in the cafeteria. There will not be an extended TA schedule that day.

4.     Student Costume Contest-Lunch activities in the caf include a student costume contest and top 3 costumes voted by applause will win a prize. Staff are also welcome.

  • Unit 4 Suggested Target Date is on November 1 – Please remind your students of this important Target Date that begins the Academic Alert process.  Details has been sent out from Kathleen in a memo regarding Academic Alerts and Conditional Zeros.  (***A special thanks in advance to the “Conditional Zero Band” for their musical reminder(s) next week! ***)
  • Carryover Exam Day is Monday November 12 – Please submit the department’s carryover exam list to Department Heads by November 8 (Thurs) so a list can be compiled for Test Centre in good time and TAs advised of students taking exam.  A Memo from Kathleen has been sent already about the above.
  • Also a reminder the “Take Your Kids To Work Day” this year falls on November 14th instead of the first week of November as per TCDSB web information. Cindy has emailed you about giving permission forms to Grade 9 students and contact any advisee’s parents who have not returned the form to you by Nov 7th.  If the student for some reason does not participate in this day, it is expected that they will be in school for the full day.  Please hang onto the permission forms as you will receive a form to fill out the list of students out on Nov 14th for TOKW from Angela Cardinale.  If you have any concerns, please contact Cindy.
  • SBAT meetings continue. Please be sure to book a meeting time with your SBAT Guidance Counsellor.

We certainly appreciated having staff representation for the award presentations as well.  As usual, parental attendance was excellent. It was full house! Overall, thanks to the organizing team for an awesome and efficient 45-minute evening event! The team has got it down to a “science” now!! (No pun intended for the science colleagues who put this together year after year!!)

Tips of the Week.jpg

TA Tip(s) of the week

The time to enter conditional zero is fast approaching. TAs may want to ask their advisees regarding their plans for not receiving conditional zeroes.

Meanwhile, we remind all TAs to please inform teachers of their advisees whom should be exempt from conditional zeros, due to extenuating circumstances.

Have a great week, everyone!
