Toronto Catholic District School Board

Welcome to Week 4 (Sep24-28)

Weeks 1, 2, and 3 have been very smooth thus far.  Our students are completing units, the Test Centre is starting to pick up and our newcomers are beginning to feel at home!

Meanwhile, let’s welcome Joseph Tuccitto who is the LTO taking care of the Drama classes!

Reminders for the week:

  • No-Movement Time – Please do not permit students to leave your seminars or resource areas during no movement time and remind your TAs of when this is and what it means.  We also ask you to please have a quick look in your hallways and encourage students to get into an area.
  • Spot Checks - consider a spot check for your TA group in the next few weeks.  Be sure to discuss what a spot check is and how it works with your new students.
  • Sports Schedules – All Fall Coaches are asked to submit their schedules to Josie so we can enter the games in the Sports Calendar.
  • Sept 26th is Rowan's Law Day – This is a day about Concussion Awareness, Management, Prevention - In March of 2018, the Ontario government passed a law known as Rowan’s Law. Designed to protect amateur athletes and educate parents/guardians, coaches and officials about the dangers of head injuries, it is the first law of its kind in Canada and will benefit both athletes and non-athletes (please email K. Wong for further education opportunities).
  • Sharing in Varia - Please email Kathleen a line or two for Varia, especially the Kudos section.
  • Annual Learning Plans (ALPs) – All permanent teachers should have their ALPs reviewed by their SBAT administrator and signed off by October 5th.  Updates can be done throughout the year. It will not work on Google Chrome. Internet Explorer (IE) is recommended.
  • TA Flag - To prepare for the Opening Liturgy, John Notten has put into your mailbox an information sheet, a maple leaf, and a patch for the TA flag. Please prepare the patch and the flag in good time for it to be ready for Sep 27th.
  • Opening Liturgy – We look forward to having Fr. Michael Lehman lead us in prayer on Thursday, Sep 27. Please speak to your TA group about the importance of attending Mass and BBQ activities to help build community.  This is NOT optional. SAC will have activities planned after the BBQ and will coordinate some TA activities.  We appreciate the participation and visibility of all teachers for the duration of the day.
  • Volunteer Supervision needed – Nadia Lena appreciates support in supervising various activities in the afternoon. Please stay tuned for an email from her regarding activities time and location.
  • Sept 28th is Orange Shirt Day - TCDSB will once again participate in Orange Shirt Day-Every Child Matters, which is a national movement created so that all Canadians can  acknowledge the issue of Residential Schools and move forward in reconciliation with the hope of creating space for learning about Indigenous peoples in Canada. Our current plan is to provide each person with a strip of orange cloth to tie around the arm instead of wearing orange shirt. Please stay tuned for an email re: details of this plan.

TA Tip(s) of the week

 TA Tip(s) of the week

A great way to organize your TA interviews is to create a schedule. Some TAs might prefer to assign each advisee a day in the Day 1-10 rotation, while others prefer to set their interviews two to three weeks in advance. Whatever option you choose, planning in advance lessens the possibility of cancellation due to schedule conflicts etc.

Be sure to create a catch-up day/plan for advisees who may be ill or absent for any reason on the day of their TA interview.

We are looking forward to seeing your TA flags.

Have a great week, everyone!
