Letter to Parents

August 25 2020

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s) in the Michael Power- St. Joseph High School Community,

I hope that all is well with you and your family. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that as an administrative team we have been working to ensure a smooth and safe start to 2020 and looking forward to welcoming our school community back.

In the meantime, together with our Catholic School Parent Council, I would like to invite you to a Michael Power-St. Joseph Virtual Town Hall on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 7:00 pm  to address questions that you may have. Parents please check your email for more information.

At this time, I would like to clarify one question that I have been receiving about the differences between the Adapted In-Person Option of school versus the 100% Distance Learning Option.

For both options:

·        Students work on and earn two credits at a time.

·        The first quadmester will end in mid-November (exact date to be determined, based on staggered start dates).

·        Students will receive final report cards at the end of each quadmester.

·        Students can alternate between the two options at the end of each quadmester.

For the Fully Remote Learning Option:

·        Courses will be taught through a Virtual School that is being established by TCDSB.

·        Teachers will be part of the online school staff, not Michael Power-St. Joseph teachers.

·        Every attempt will be made to match students’ period 1 and 2 courses, when possible.

·        Course offerings will depend on teacher availability.

·        Specialty courses such as IB and Extended French must be taught by specially trained teachers and are unlikely to be available in the virtual school.

·        Students who choose this option will continue to have access to guidance counsellor and school supports from Michael Power-St. Joseph H.S.

Further details about the TCDSB school re-opening plan can be found using the link below (press Control and click to follow the link):

Please be aware that if you feel you would like to change your choice of school learning options or have not received the survey, please email MichaelPowerStJoseph.Info@tcdsb.org  by Friday, August 28, and we will record your changed response.

I will be in touch again with details about logistics of the return to school plan. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you at Our Virtual Town Hall Meeting on August 31, 2020.

Sincerely,

Rose Mary Rossetti
