2018 Michael Power/St. Joseph Athletic Banquet

 

 

On Tuesday, June 5th, 2018, the Michael Power/St. Joseph High School athletic community celebrated the year, with a few special guests: Ed Kwiatkowski, Godfrey Lewis, and Brendan Shanahan.
 
Ed graduated from MPSJ in 1975, competing in Football, Basketball, Wrestling, and Track and Field. He was most successful throwing the discuss for Father Redmond, where he won OFSAA in 1973, 1974, and 1975. He set the Canadian record for discuss in 1975. Ed is currently the President of The Great Canadian Bagel Company.
 
Godfrey graduated from MPSJ in 1998, earning a football scholarship to Bowling Green State University. He earned Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year honours at MPSJ, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. Godfrey was also a two-time OFSAA qualifier in Track and Field in the 100m and high jump events. Godfrey is currently a Disabilties and Mental Health coordinator at Toledo Public Schools in Ohio.
 
Brendan attended MPSJ from 1983 to 1986, competing in Football, Hockey, and Track and Field. He was part of the 1985 OFSAA hockey championship team and won an OFSAA silver medal in Javelin in 1986. Brendan is currently the President of the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL).
 
Principal Joseph Brisbois and Theology Head Kathie Capin were honoured as they will be retiring this June. Joseph Brisbois has greatly contributed to the athletics program at MPSJ as a co- athletic director, softball and hockey coach. Kathie Capin has coached Cross Country and Track and Field over her career and is always willing to assist with the program when needed.
