Skills Canada Speech Competition

Confucious once said "the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name". If we're to align ourselves with this philosophy, then allow us to call Luca Sala by his proper title: speech aficionado.
This very same quote is how Sala opened his speech on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at the Skills Canada Provincial Prepared Speech competition in Waterloo. He spoke about the nature of skilled trades and entrepreneurship in Canada, and our need to redefine the titles so as to entice students to the prospects of careers in those fields. Underlying his entire argument was the mantra of "finding your passion" and the necessity to allow our hearts to govern our trade, often our most dominant marker of identity and purpose in life. The road to the Provincials was not easy, especially with some last minute hurdles that nearly derailed Luca's run. Despite the small window to prepare, Luca prevailed, delivering his speech with poise and, fittingly, passion. He received one of the two Gold medals won by the Toronto Catholic District School Board. He represented Johnson, the Rexdale community, the TCDSB, and the province in the National Competition in Moncton, New Brunswick in June!
