The school community officially cut the ribbon on the school’s new addition following a Mass at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, with Father Michael Machacek as officiate. After the blessing, the community stayed for an Open House to celebrate the 50th anniversary. In attendance were Board Chair and school trustee, Ann Andrachuk, MPP Donna Cansfield, City Councillor Doug Holliday (who presented a certficate from the City) and school superintendent Josie Nespolo, who presented an official commemorative certificate from the TCDSB. Several past principals attended.
The new addition contains 3 regular classrooms, and 3 Early Learning kindergarten classrooms. It has enhanced, barrier-free accessibility with the provision of barrier free washrooms and a dedicated JK/SK exterior play area for full day learning with hard and soft landscaping. The outdoor playground has been re-designed with well-defined, purpose-built play areas. Strategically-located shade trees help reduce building heat and provide shade for students. A time capsule that hasn’t seen the light of day since 1987 was revealed on October 10th The community added some memorable 2012 pieces for the next anniversary in 2037 (75th).
