March 3 2015

Neil McNeil 2     Michael Power 4

The 2014-2015 Neil Junior Hockey Team had one of the best seasons ever recorded in the school’s history. Neil completed the season with an astounding 9-0-1 record giving the undefeated team a bye into the semi-final TDCAA playoffs. Neil won both games against Father Redmond with a score of 3-1 in each match. Both games were very competitive and were filled with fast-paced action. As a result, Neil advanced to the Championship Day held at the MasterCard Centre on March 3, 2015.

There were many parents, staff, and students at the championship game that supported Neil McNeil throughout three periods of extraordinary hockey. Neil was first on the scoreboard from a goal by grade 9 player, Will Robinson. This didn’t last long as Michael Power answered by scoring two goals and made it an intense two-way game. Will Robinson picked up his second goal of the game in the third period and Power responded quickly adding another. With a last minute attempt and six skaters on the ice, Neil desperately tried to score and tie the game but the puck slipped passed the defensemen and Power got an empty net goal. The final score was Michael Power 4, Neil McNeil 2.

A special thank you to all the players that contributed to an unbelievable and successful season. We are proud of all of you. Thank you to the coaches, Mr. Ranson, Mr. Molloy, and Ms. Corey for your commitment and dedication to the team.

Good luck in the 2015-2016 season!

Neil McNeil 7       Michael Power 3

On Tuesday January 6, 2015, Neil’s junior hockey team made the trek to Etobicoke and beat Michael Power in a 7-3 victory. Power wasn’t a match up for our grade nine and ten undefeated hockey team and this win brings the team’s record to an astonishing 6-0-1. This win makes Neil first place overall in the TDCAA league.

Goals in the game were scored by: Will Robinson, Mike Trahan, Rob Brillinger, Ben Azzopardi, Liam Foudy, Jace Pitawanakwat, and Kevin Shirmaly.  Coaches were really pleased to see all lines contributing to the offensive parts of the game and Aidan White made some great saves including a huge glove hand save at the end of the first period.

Neil hopes to continue its effort and performance next Tuesday at the St. Michael’s Invitational Tournament and against Cardinal Newman on Wednesday.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, Neil McNeil continued their undefeated success beating Sir Oliver Mowat 2 to 1 at Scarborough Gardens. There was three periods of hockey that was filled with hard-fought battles, big checks, quick plays and intense scoring opportunities. Both goalies played extremely well and Aiden White on Neil McNeil made some incredible stops throughout the game.

Kevin Shirmaly played an unbelievable game and got both goals for the team. Coaches are really pleased with the captain’s performance on and off the ice this season.

Neil’s record is an outstanding 5-0-1 and we look forward to seeing them in action in 2015.

December 11, 2014
Neil McNeil 6       Brebeuf 2

Neil McNeil played Brebeuf College for the second time this season capturing the series beating their opponents 6-2.  It was not an easy match for the Maroons however the players played a solid three periods of hockey demonstrating a consistent team effort of determination and success.

Reilly Parsons led the team in body checks and the Persaud brothers (Derek and Justin) also played a very physical game while Derek Persaud scored two goals making him the man of the match.
Neil’s defense did a great job keeping the rebounds away from goaltender Keller Ziessman, and had amazing offensive opportunities from Rob Brillinger and Michael Workentin who both scored in the game. Michael Trahan and Will Robinson also saw the score column and most goals during the game came from rebounds and crashing the net.

Next game takes place on Tuesday December 16 at 3:00pm at Scarborough Gardens vs. Mowat.

Neil McNeil 2        Bishop Allen 2

In the first road game of the season, Neil McNeil played Bishop Allen at Mimico Arena on Wednesday. Neil looked solid in the first period jumping ahead with a two goal lead. Bishop Allen was quick to respond and tied the game late in the third period.

Overall it was a good effort by the Maroons however most were disappointed in the tie. Even though Neil had some good opportunities increasing the lead in the game, Bishop Allen’s defensive efforts prevailed and this led to Allen tying the game. Kevin Shirmaly and Liam Foudy had a goal each in the game.

Neil McNeil is still undefeated in the season and their next game is against Brebeuf at Bayview Arena on Thursday, December 11.

With a quick break and talk with the players going into the third period, Neil put in the extra effort to get a couple of insurance goals to make the final, 7-3 in Neil’s favour.

The man of the match was Will Robsinson who scored 2 goals and captain, Kevin Shirmaly, also potted a pair. Reilly Parsons, grade 9, had a huge game making some big checks and had a goal in the second period. Ben Azzopardi kept his goal streak alive adding one and Michael Oliveira came through with a single.
