Chaplaincy News

St. Rose of Lima hosted the 5th annual Mass to End Woman Abuse on October 7th, and five Neil McNeil students attended as volunteers for the event.  MP Brad Duguid and Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker were in attendance and took a moment to speak with our students about their involvement supporting the cause.

On October 6th, the Young Spiritans participated in McNeil’s first Street Patrol of the year. Over the course of the afternoon, the Young Spiritans distributed 96 sandwiches, 84 juice boxes and 50 snacks to the homeless that they encountered. ​

October 1st was the first round of Grade 9 Religion retreats, hosted at St. John’s Parish Hall and led by Positive Gear and Mr. Cumming’s Grade 12 Discipleship class.

On September 30th, the NET Ministries (New Evangelization Team) visited St. Brigid’s Parish to host the Grade 10 Religion retreat. It was a day of blessings filled with great music, camaraderie, games, conversations and prayer.

Bishop Gary Gordon of the Diocese of Victoria B.C., visited the grade 11 and 12 morning religion classes to talk about Social Justice, Catholic Missions in Canada, and the people who need us most: those on the peripheries of society.

On September 11th the Grades 10, 11 and 12 assembled at St. John’s parish for a commissioning Mass for the grade 12s. Fr. John Newman called for the community to extend their hands and ask God for a blessing for our Grade 12s as they begin their final year at Neil McNeil and prepare to embark on the journey of the rest of their lives.
