"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others"
~ Mahatma Gandhi
It is a Ministry requirement that students complete 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. It is also Neil McNeil's mission to teach our students to use their gifts to serve their communities; leading boys to be men, for others. It is our hope that these service experiences will light a spark that will motivate them to complete hours above and beyond the required amount.
In an effort to motivate students, there are various incentives in place at Neil McNeil:
Grade 9 students are encouraged to join the Freshman 40! If they complete their 40 hours by the end of April, they will receive special recognition at our Freshman 40 celebration breakfast.
In addition, students who reach various 'milestones' of service are rewarded each year with a Neil McNeil service pin:
In grade 10, a bronze pin is awarded to each student who has earned 100 hours.
In grade 11, a silver pin is awarded to students who have reached 250 hours
in grade 12, students who reach the 500 hour milestone are honoured with a gold pin.
Students who reach these incredible goals are also rewarded through increased scholarship opportunities from community organizations and post secondary institutions.
Opportunities are posted regularly on the wall outside the Guidance office. There is a sign up binder with the Guidance Secretary which contains contacts and registration details. Also, check out the following websites:
