Toronto Catholic District School Board

Summer Community Service

TCDSB continued with its annual tradition of providing opportunities for students to earn community service hours during the summer months. During the first two weeks of the Summer Service, one team was at the Good Shepherd where they made beds, folded laundry, cleaned, organized, and worked in the kitchen.

The students did an excellent job of representing the TCDSB community, as they worked "together as a community of believers committed to putting the values of our faith into practice in the daily life of the school, the home, and in all of society."

It was great to see each student give the gift of time, and work collaboratively to serve some of our city's must vulnerable. In return, I saw many students grow in their understanding of issues surrounding poverty, and develop a greater level of compassion and care for those who have been affected by it.

It was also a great opportunity for students to develop important work related skills, which will serve them in the future as they seek opportunities to save for their post secondary education.

The group was supervised by Bradley St. Amant from Neil McNeil High School.
