Notre Dame 75th Anniversary

Roots to Grow;  Wings to Fly

The Notre Dame spirit was showcased at its 75th Anniversary celebration on the weekend of October 14/15, 2016.  The milestone celebration began with an Open House at the school on the Friday evening, welcoming back alumnae and former staff with memorabilia, decade rooms and refreshments.  On the Saturday, the day began with a Mass at Good Shepherd Church.  Msgr. John Weber celebrated the Mass. He was once the school Chaplain and said Mass for the school’s 50th Anniversary. Accompanying Msgr. Weber were Father Pat Fitzpatrick and Father Peter McKenna.   Msgr. Weber gave the homily, reminding the congregation that Notre Dame provides “roots to grow and wings to fly”.  The guests of honour included four “pioneer” students from the first class, including Sr. Denise Burns, CND,  ’45 and Sr. Noreen Frechette, CND, ’45. Former school administrators, current staff, students and alumnae gathered in prayer and song.  Superintendent John  Shanahan brought greetings on behalf of the Director of Education and Sr. Lucille Corrigan, CND (former Principal) reflected on Notre Dame’s long history of service.

Following Mass, 750 guests enjoyed a reception and dinner at Le Parc Banquet. Students from the school presented a brief tableau on the “Circle of Life”.  Principal Jolanta Hickey welcomed everyone.  Chair of the Board and member of the class of ’65, Angela Kennedy, brought greetings on behalf of the Board of Trustees and presented a congratulatory framed certificate to commemorate the occasion.  Accepting the certificate was school Chaplain Sandra Soave and President of the Alumnae, Karen Volpe. The Keynote Speaker was Sr. Josephine Badali, CND ’60, Former CND Congregational and Provincial Leader.  Theresa Wetzel, ’65, gave the closing remarks.
