Grey Cup Fever at Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School was chosen to host a visit with the Calgary Grey Cup Committee (CGCC) mascot as well as their band, clowns, Stampede Royalty and the Stampede Princess. The school was presented with a cheque for $1100 from the CGCC to purchase library books and gym equipment.
For 68 years, the CGCC has brought Calgary’s brand of western hospitality to the host city of the Grey Cup. The 104th Grey Cup will be celebrated in Toronto this year where it all began in 1948 for Calgary. A trainload of Calgary football enthusiasts headed east for the game. While there, they served up free pancakes and even rode a horse into the Royal York Hotel. Since then, a VIP Reception and a school visit have been added to their list of activities.
