Toronto Catholic District School Board

Admissions and Registration

New students are always welcome to our school community.

The Board makes every effort to accommodate students at the school of their choice. Placement will be offered based on the physical capacity of the school, local demand and program availability. Please be advised that living within a school boundary DOES NOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT. When placement is not possible in the school requested, students will be offered a placement at the nearest TCDSB school with space and program availability. Transportation may be provided in accordance with our Transportation Policy and budget availability.

For general information about admissions and registration, including the new online application process, please visit the main board website.

Admissions and Registration

Dear Parents/Guardians;

Kindergarten Registration will begin for all Elementary Schools on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:00 am EST.

Parents/guardians with children born in 2012 or earlier and who will be enrolling in Kindergarten, have the opportunity to apply on-line using the “Student On-line Admission and Registration” platform known as S.O.A.R. and found at the following link: http://soar.tcdsb.org

Parents will be able to complete an application for registration from the convenience of their own home, the office, a public library, or anywhere there is internet access, 24 hours a day.  The on-line application also offers access to translations in different languages with built-in help functions and features.

Alternately, families may choose to register in person at our school.  We will begin to accept registrations at 10:00 a.m., on January 13, 2016.

An extended registration night has been set aside for January 18th, 2016 from 3:30-8 p.m.

As part of the registration process, school staff will meet with parents.  These meetings may be scheduled on the electronic application or in person at the school.  During the meeting, school staff will verify the original documentation required for registration. This consists of a Baptismal Certificate, Birth Certificate and/or Passport, Immunization record, proof of residence and Application for Direction of School support.

Applications to register children in grades other than Kindergarten can also be completed on the online S.O.A.R. application. Please share this information with any parents/guardians with school aged children in the community.

As in previous years, an extensive promotional campaign will be launched throughout the City of Toronto, with paid advertisements in the local media, posters in public centers, through the board website and on vinyl banners for display on school property.

Preparing Children for a Successful Start to School
It is natural that starting school can cause mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety for children and families. Before beginning this new adventure, parents/guardians can prepare their child by:
  • Visiting the school during an open house, Education week or other special   event.
  • Visiting the Kindergarten classroom and meeting the teacher.
  • Involving the child in activities that promote learning in the community (e.g., local library programs, The Ontario Early Years Centres).
  • Talking positively about school and school-related activities.
  • Reading and discussing books about school and making new friends.
  • Walking or driving to school before the first day to practice the route.
  • Talking through any fears or concerns about starting school.
  • Establishing a routine a few weeks before beginning school.

Parents are encouraged to speak to their child’s teacher if there any concerns or questions regarding adjustment to school.

Parents/guardians can support a successful transition from home to school by ensuring that their child:
  • Dresses in clothes that are easily managed, comfortable, labeled with his/her name and appropriate for the weather
  • Manages dressing and undressing himself/herself (e.g., putting on and taking off jackets and shoes)
  • Responds to his/her name
  • Attends to his/her own toileting needs
  • Respects other people and materials
  • Has an early, regular bedtime and is well-rested
  • Brings a small, healthy (peanut-free) snack for school each day
  • Understands daily arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Arrives on time for school each day.
  •
