On Thursday, October 18, 2018, students from Grades 6 to 8 had the opportunity to cast their votes in a simulated parallel municipal election with students and staff assisting as ballot scrutineers and elections officials. Students learned first-hand about the municipal electoral process and the platforms and priorities of councillor and mayoral candidates, including those for Ward 21, Scarborough Centre. This significant experiential event is aligned with the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations, specifically:
  • A collaborative contributor who finds meaning, dignity and vocation in work which respects the rights of all and contributes to the common good;
  • A caring family member who attends to family, school, parish, and the wider community;
  • A responsible citizen who gives witness to Catholic social teaching by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human life.
