Toronto Catholic District School Board

Message of Inclusion

Office of the Director of Education Office of the Chair of the Board

June 1, 2020

At the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), we strive to create equitable and inclusive learning environments and communities founded on Catholic principles of respect, inclusion, fairness, and social justice, in which every person is valued as a child of God. Our commitment to equity and inclusion is at the foundation of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, Equity Action Plan and Pastoral Plan. It is incumbent upon us to ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming places for all. We must also acknowledge that there is always more to do.

We must continue to identify and eliminate discriminatory practices, systemic barriers, and biases. We must recognize that students who identify as LGBTQ+ may experience discrimination and judgment.

As Catholics, we believe that we are wonderfully made in the image and likeness of a God who created us and loves us unconditionally – just as we are. We are called to love and celebrate one another, just as God loves and celebrates each one of us. We honour the inherent dignity in each other by treating one another with care, compassion, and respect.

June is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which for Catholics is a sign and symbol of God’s boundless and passionate love for all humanity. We would also like to acknowledge that the month of June is of particular importance and manifests pride for those within our community who identify as LGBTQ+.

Belonging to a faith community of believers, we are assured of acceptance and inclusion, and we are valued as members of one body in Christ. At the TCDSB, we believe that every child belongs.

God bless,
