Lemon Battery Experiment

Grade 6 students created lemon batteries as part of their study of electricity. In their investigation of a lemon battery, they were required to use four lemons arranged in a circuit formation to power a LED. The students became very excited when they suddenly observed their LEDs light up as a result of copper (penny) and zinc (galvanized iron nail) reacting with the lemon acid to produce electricity.
