School Cricket Awards

Precious Blood was awarded the Spirit of Cricket Award on Friday, April 26 by John Tory, the Mayor of Toronto for promoting the game of cricket over the past nine years. Both Blessed Cardinal Newman High School and Precious Blood were chosen to receive this year's awards. Ms. Janice Gill, development team coordinator and grade 5 teacher, received the award on behalf of the school at the Central Tech Stadium on Bathurst Street.

The Spirit of Cricket Award is presented to schools, in recognition of any one or more of the following:
. Special efforts made by principal and staff to introduce cricket; showcasing the passion with which the team prepared for the competition
. Schools that may not have a well-developed cricket program to enter a team - yet the staff and students have shown great leadership promoting the game in Physical Education classes
. Schools that enter the team regularly to the tournament despite not being able to win a trophy
. Schools that actively engaged the parents and community as volunteers to support cricket encouragement for participation of girls and accommodating kids with special needs
