Orange Shirt Day

On Monday, September 30th Mrs. Brown's  and Mrs. Hayes class went to the Catholic Education Centre (CEC) to take part in Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It came about from a story about a girl named Phylis having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. Our grade 1 and 2 classes presented a short skit with art work and sang a song to commemorate this day.
