Toronto Catholic District School Board

Mock Trial
The Grade 6 students participated in the annual Mock Trial, which is sponsored by the Ontario Bar Association to celebrate Law Week. Our special guests, Ms. Leanne Gleeson and Mr. Sean Moreman who are members of the legal counsel for the Canadian Broadcasting Commission provided assistance to the Grade 6 students in the classroom trial of R vs Quirky. Even Mr. Moreman gave credence to the trial by dressing in his judicial robes and acted as the judge for the trial.
The outcome of the trial according to the consensus of the jury was that Quirky was not guilty of theft under $5000. Our judge pointed out to the students that the not guilty decision was justified based on the evidence presented at the trial because of the defendant's lack of knowledge of the rules of law on Earth.
Our guests were very impressed by the students' preparation for the Mock Trial and how seriously they undertook the project. We thank both Ms. Gleeson and Mr. Moreman for their interest and the very generous contribution of their time for the Grade 6 students. We hope that both of our guests can return to Precious Blood for next year's Mock Trial Program.
