Academics

The dedicated staff at St. Aidan Catholic School strive to meet the needs of all students and support student success. Classroom teachers use Differentiated Instruction strategies to engage all learners.  There is an English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom and a Special Education classroom where students who have been identified as requiring additional, individualized academic support, are serviced for part of the day.

French as a Second Language is taught to all students from grades 1 to 8.  Students from kindergarten to grade 6 receive one period a week of vocal music instruction from a specialized vocal music teacher.  Grade 7 and 8 students receive instrumental music instruction.  A specialty physical education teacher provides gym classes for the students from grades 1 to 6.


The principal and a group of dedicated teachers form the School Improvement Team (SIT) to review student achievement, set learning improvement goals and develop the School’s Learning Improvement Plan (SLIP).  The School’s Learning Improvement Plan mirrors the Board’s Learning Improvement Plan, incorporating the Board’s initiatives in Numeracy and Literacy.  Teachers regularly attend Board sponsored workshops and inservices to keep current with teaching practices and educational philosophy.
