TCDSB Celebrates Innovation and Excellence
Congratulations to Winners of Exemplary Practice Awards
The Toronto Catholic District School Board congratulates the 16 school communities who were recognized with the Exemplary Practice Award. This was the 15th annual celebration of innovation in education.
The awards celebrate innovation in education, highlighting the unique initiatives and ambitious projects undertaken at the local level, which foster student achievement and well-being, and enhance the overall learning experience for students.
“The awards are a way for us to recognize and celebrate the staff and school communities who take on new challenges and approach learning in new and creative ways,” says Director of Education Angela Gauthier. “These individuals are an inspiration to their colleagues. They remind us that each child and each school community is unique, and that students learn best when the educational experience is tailored to meet their needs.”
“Our congratulations and thanks to all the winners,” says Chair Jo-Ann Davis. “We are humbled by the breadth of talent and level of commitment to excellence and innovation and service to the community in Catholic education. They make us very proud.”
Among the winners was St. Angela--S.M.I.L.E. Team (Students Mentoring Individual Leaders Everyday). They organize leadership activities, mentor individuals and assist in the resolution of conflicts through SMILE circles, a form of mediation run by students for students. They allow students the opportunity to have a voice and be heard and to resolve conflicts in a safe environment, empowering them to problem solve in a positive manner.
