Toronto Catholic District School Board

St. Anthony celebrates opening of Parenting and Family Literacy Centre

The Toronto Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the official opening of
two new Parenting and Family Literacy Centres this fall—at St. Albert Catholic School
in Scarborough and St. Anthony Catholic School in downtown Toronto.
Father Patrick Fitzpatrick blessed the new centre at St. Anthony on September 26th.

The centre is open 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
Parenting and Family Literacy Centres are school based programs where
parents/caregivers and their children, from birth to six years of age, participate in playbased
activities that promote the development of literacy and numeracy skills through
discovery, inquiry, exploration and creativity. The programs are FREE and open to all.
Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centres:

 - support children’s early learning and well-being of the whole child
 - promote positive parent-child interaction and engagement
 - help children transition more easily to kindergarten through a collaborative
approach between parent/caregiver, program facilitator and kindergarten teacher
 - engage parents/caregivers positively with the school system using an inclusive
      approach
 - meet the unique and individual needs of families
 - assist and link families to community resources
