St. Augustine was pleased to welcome Trustee Patrizia Bottoni, MPP Mario Sergio, Director of Education Angela Gauthier, Associate Pastor from St. Augustine Parish Fr Pedro, and Superintendent Gina Iuliano-Marrello as they celebrated the announcement of funding for an addition to the school. The plans include a 92 pupil place addition which also features 3 child care rooms. Projected costs for the addition and retrofit total $6.5 million.

“We are delighted with the news that the Board will be able to proceed with this addition and renovation to better accommodate the students at St. Augustine,” says Patrizia Bottoni, Ward 4 Trustee. “Our Board remains focused on excellence in Catholic education, and we recognize the need to continue to invest in our school facilities so that young people have every opportunity for success,” adds Bottoni.

Over the next 10 years, the province has pledged to provide school boards with more than $11 billion to help build new schools in high growth areas, improve existing facilities, and invest in projects to reduce surplus space through school consolidation.
“Our community will directly benefit from the provincial funding for St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic School so this is great news for York West families,” says Mario Sergio, MPP for York West. “This investment is part of Ontario’s strategy to build Ontario up by investing in our students, families and making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history.”

The addition is part of the TCDSB’s continuing investment in new school facilities to support student achievement and well-being. The Board’s ambitious capital plan includes the construction of new facilities, as well as a commitment for significant improvements to existing schools.

Students expressed their appreciation for the addition by presenting a large signed banner, and the dignitaries capped off the event with a toast with non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
