Welcome to the
Department of Special Education
“The world needs different kinds of minds to work together” - Dr. Temple Grandin
The Special Education Department at St. Basil’s hosts a number of different programs that are designed to meet the needs of all exceptional students. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed for each student that reflects his/her unique strengths, needs and learning styles.
IPRC (Identification, Placement and Review Committee) meetings for annual reviews are mandatory for identified students in grades 9 and 11. A parent/guardian has the option of waiving the annual IPRC meeting in grades 10 and 12. Meetings for initial IPRC meetings occur throughout the year and are scheduled by the school board. They occur at various off-school sites.
Our department runs programs that include supports and accommodations for credit earning students, gifted and enrichment opportunities, as well as alternative courses that provide valuable life skills experiences.
