The current school year promises to be another one filled with many exciting events here at St. Bernard.  We have a variety of events happening here at the school that help to enrich learning experiences for our students.   Below are some of the amazing events that make our school so great.  For more information on all of the events here at the school, visit us on twitter to see more of all of the awesome things that happen at our school.

Bike Rodeo

On October 4th, 2016, our Junior students participated in the annual Bike Rodeo put on by 12 Division.  This year, our school was chosen to launch the "Wear your Helmet Campaign" which is a joint initiative involving many organizations including Toronto Public Health, Toronto Police Service, Sick Kids Hospital and both the TCDSB and the TDSB.  It was a great success.  As well, thank you to Chaminade students who volunteered to help make this event a successful one.

Glee club at Indigo

On the evening of October 5th, 2016, our Glee Club performed at the Indigo Store at Yorkdale.  St. Bernard's was that location's sponsored school for the "Adopt a School" campaign.  Through Indigo's "Love of Reading" program our school received a grant of over $6000 for our school library.  Thanks to all who supported us.






Curriculum BBQ Night

On October 6th, 2016, the St. Bernard Community got together for our Curriculum BBQ Night.  Parents had a chance to discuss curriculum with teachers and everyone had a chance to enjoy some great food together.

On November 23rd, 2016, Dynamix came to the school.  Through a variety of cooperative activities, students from different grade levels learned about working together and team work.

Toronto Police Service safety visits

During the week of November 28th to December 2nd, 2016, Officer Verrette from 12 Division came to visit all of our classes to discuss a variety of age appropriate safety topics. 


Hour of Code

On December 5th and 6th, 2016, our grade 6 students participated in the 'Hour of Code' event.  This event is a global event that reaches millions of students annually.

Suitcase Theatre

On December 12th, 2016, Suitcase Theatre came to perform for our primary students.  Students were transported to the 'Friend Ship' for a wonderful presentation about the importance of helping each other and friendship.

Archbishop Romero students visit Kindergartens

On December 19th, 2016, students from one of our local high schools, Blessed Archbishop Romero visited all of our Kindergarten classes.  For weeks, they prepared a special art activity that they completed with our students.  A special Thanks to Mr. DeSantis and his Wood Arts students for making this a special day for our students.

St. Bernard Advent Mass 

On the evening of December 19th, 2016, the St. Bernard community celebrated our annual Advent Mass together.  Many thanks to Father Bartek and St. Bernard parish for helping us to make this event a success.

Alpha Rhythm Roots

On February 13th, 2017, Alpha Rhythm Roots came to help us "Keep the world in Rhythm".  Our primary classes thoroughly enjoy their presentation of African traditions.

Canada Flag Day

On February 15th, 2017, we celebrated Canada Flag day with Canada's 150th birthday in mind.  Take a look at the group effort.

Carnaval & Carnevale

On February 24th, 2017, the school celebrated Carnaval & Carnevale.  Bonhomme came to pay a visit.  As well, students were able to display the beautiful masks they put together for the event.  We also celebrated with croissants and chocolate milk!




Maestro Fresh Wes 

Also on February 24th, 2017, Maestro Fresh Wes came to tell our junior intermediate students to 'Stick to your Vision'.   The teachers were just as excited as the students.

Father Bartek Takes on Students

On the afternoon of March 6th, Fr. Bartek from St. Bernard De Clairveaux parish came to play some chess with our Chess team.  He played 8 games... simultaneously.  Fr. Bartek won 6 and lost 2.  The chess team had a great time and Fr. Bartek was a great challenge.  Thanks to him for spending some time with our team.

Hope for Haiti

March was our 'Hope for Haiti' month.  Student brought in food, self care products and school supplies to be packed in to boxes and shipped to Haiti is part of a TCDSB initiative.  We filled 48 boxes!  As well, our Student vs. Teacher 'Hoops for Haiti' was a great success as well. Our Me to We team was an integral part of planning these initiatives.

The Big Crunch

On March 9th, 2017, St. Bernard participated in The Big Crunch.  Our students, along with thousands of students across Toronto and beyond crunched into some tasty and healthy apples.  The Event is sponsored by Foods Share and was an effort to celebrate healthy eating and locally grown produce.

Stations of the Cross

On Holy Thursday, April 13th, 2017, our grade 5 student performed the stations of the Cross in honour of the sacrifice Jesus made for us and to prepare for the joyous Easter season.

Talent Show

On April 18th & 19th, 2017, our school put on it's annual talent show.  Students from all grades showcased their wonderful talents for the school.  

Family Fit Night 

On the evening of April 20th, we held our family fit night.  Families were introduced to a variety of physical activities that they could enjoy together.

Woodbine Arts Festival 

 On the afternoon of May 2nd, 2017, our intermediate band participated in annual TCDSB Woodbine Arts festival.  Students performed at Woodbine mall for students and mall patrons alike. 



 Dinner Theatre

On the evenings of May 3rd & 4th, we had our annual dinner theatre.  St. Bernard families were treated to a tasty dinner followed by a performance of Snow White by the Dufflebag Theatre.  It was a great night.

Church Hug

On May 12th, 2017, the students of St. Bernard thanked Father Bartek for his wonderful contributions to our school.  We ended the celebration with a big Church hug to show our appreciation for the wonderful partnership we share.

 Father Bartek Chess tournament

 On May 25th, 2017, the school held the father Bartek Chess tournament.  Students from Junior and Intermediate grades competed for the chance to claim dominance on the chess board.

Sara Westbrook

On May 25th, 2017, Sara Westbrook came to speak to our junior and intermediate students about being positive and respecting yourself.  




New Intermediate Stairwell Mural 

On June 5th, 2017, the Stop the Stigma team revealed the 'Believe' mural that they had been working on over the course of a few weeks.

Corn Roast

On June 16th, 2017, St. Bernard enjoyed their Second Annual Corn Roast. Students enjoyed a delicious healthy snack.  Even our local MPP, Laura Albanese, attended.  Thanks to Mr. Corn and CSPC for ensuring everything went smoothly.

Métis Fiddler 

On June 22nd, 2017, Conlin and Nicholas from the Métis Fiddler group performed for our students.  This was a culmination of several days of Conlin working with our grade 5 and 6 students who learned about Métis culture through music and Canadian history. 




School BBQ

On June 23rd, 2017, in spite of the rain, St. Bernard Students enjoyed a BBQ.  Special thanks to the CSPC for providing the food, Soledad Martis for providing the water and Domenic & Francesco who cooked it all up for us.  The Toronto Fire Service also showed up to show some of our students around their truck.
