Christian Mediation at St. Bruno

Toronto Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce a pilot project for Christian Meditation. This initiative will involve schools from across the city. Participating classes will be taught Christian meditation by instructors who have been trained in the process of teaching this form and expression of prayer.

Christian meditation focuses on God. When we meditate we move from mental prayer (prayer of the mind) to a deeper level, the heart (the prayer of the heart.) It is an acknowledgement that the Spirit dwells within us and that we need to be quiet and still to listen to the Spirit. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that meditation is “a prayerful quest engaging thought, imagination, emotion, and desire. Its goal is to make our own in faith the subject considered, by confronting it with the reality of our own life.” (CCC 2723)

Prayer has three major expressions found in Sacred Scripture and Tradition: vocal meditative, and contemplative. Meditative prayer is one of the expectations for grades 1-8 in the new Elementary Religious Education Policy Document, approved by the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario.

Our first session focused on our virtue of the month, Gratitude. That we should show gratitude toward all of nature and all the creations of God. As we head towards Thanksgiving we should be especially thankful for our friends and families and all that God has given to us.

Hosted by the staff and students of St. Mary of the Angles school, the first mass of the school year was a shining example of our shared Catholic faith in Catholic education. In Fr. Garcia’s homily he mentioned the importance of listening to each other, our parents, teachers and more importantly listening to God as he guides us through our lives.

Welcome back to another school year.
On behalf of the staff at St. Bruno, welcome back to what will be a very exciting and rewarding 2016-2017 academic year. A special welcome to all of our new students that are joining our St. Bruno family. The dedicated St. Bruno staff, plan to continue the great work done by all community members to enhance and support the development of our young people. We will continue to provide an education that focuses on teaching the whole child: spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. By educating the whole child, we will be able to achieve our goal; ensuring that our children are: discerning believers in God, reflective and creative thinkers, self-directed lifelong learners, collaborative contributors, caring family members and responsible citizens.
The staff and I look forward to working with you and your children.
