Principal's End Of Year Message

  

Dear Parents/Guardians,

 
What a great year we have had and this is due in large part to your on-going commitment to your child’s education. Your support of our initiatives has become the impetus for us to provide even more opportunities for your children, our students. For next year, we will be up to 675 students as we have added an additional Grade 5/6 FI class. As a result, all of our classrooms will now be occupied by a specific grade or resource support room. 


 A special thank you to Father Joseph, and Sandra. Next year being the Year of the Parish, we will continue to nurture the strong connection between Church, School and Family. Together this triumvirate can and will make a positive difference in the lives of our students. Let’s continue to build a strong sense of spirituality and reverence in our students.

Over the summer we are excited about the new rock climbing wall being installed in the south part of the playground adjacent to the play structure. A special thank you to our CSPC for providing this additional means for our students to stay healthy and active.

If you will not be returning to our school we want to express our gratitude for having entrusted us with the educational development of your child and wish you all the very best in your future endeavors. If you have not already notified the school that your family will not be returning to our school community for the 2016/17 school year, please do so as we are in the process of creating next year’s class lists.

We have several staff members who will be on a leave of absence for next year. Ms.Spalding will be off to Vancouver. Mr.Hunt will be off for one year as will Ms.Tracy Amankwah, our Educational assistant and Mr.Cabral, our Early Childhood Educator.

We also say good-bye to several Long-term Occasional teachers: Ms.Melo, Ms.Reilly and Ms.D’Lima. Finally, we say good bye and extend our best wishes to Ms.Purri who has been appointed as the new Principal at Transfiguration of our Lord Catholic School. We wish them all the very best as they embark on new adventures.

We want to thank our Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) for all of their tremendous work this year in raising funds in order to provide so many opportunities for our students. Our Welcome Back BBQ and Curriculum Night will  take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 . On that evening our CSPC will be organizing dress code clothing sale. The first CSPC AGM will be held on October 4th at 7.

First day back at school will be on Tuesday, September 6. As has been past practice, the students will meet their new teacher starting with Grade 1’s in the South part of the playground. Grades will be posted incrementally on the wall getting closer to the parking lot. Grade 6,7,8 students will have their list posted in the North yard. Teachers will have a class list posted with first name and surname initial. Once bell sounds, teachers will bring the students into the school and we ask that parents say good bye outside and not come into the school. The Junior Kindergarten and senior kindergarten classes will meet at the front of the school as has been past practice.

At day’s end, please meet your child in these same areas except for Grade 2 students who will meet their children in the North yard. If you have more than one child, please pick up the youngest first and then proceed to the area from where your older child exits.
   
Teachers have been working quite diligently to create class list for next year that take under consideration the dynamics of student interactions and specific socio-emotional needs. They do their very best to consult with one another to come up with these lists. Parent notes and reflections have been included as part of the teacher’s decision about class make up. We will not share class lists in the spring as classes may change by the first day of school if Ministry class caps have been exceeded. We thank you for your understanding of this request.

Recently the Transportation department issued a revamping of its bussing policy. Be that as it may, 500 meters have been removed from past catchment area. This means that approximately 103 students will no longer be eligible to receive bussing for the 2016/17 school year. A letter to this effect was sent home to parents. If you are eligible for transportation, please ensure that the school office has set up bussing. Please expect delays with the delivery and pick up of students during the first week while drivers and students adjust to the new routines. For students new to bussing, it is recommended that parents on the first day, follow the bus to and from school to ensure that the student is comfortable with the new routine. To receive notices about bus cancellations or delays, follow us on Twitter at @StCeciliaCS. You do not need to set up an account. Simply text 21212 for the number. Then type follow stceciliacs in the text message. When we Tweet out a notice about bussing you will receive a text message on your phone. Should you wish to stop following us, type in the same number and then add leave stcecilia in the message box.

We will be continuing to enforce our dress code for the upcoming school year. This year we had fewer students who did not adhere to the school’s dress code and we appreciate all of your efforts in instilling the respect that this conveys for our school rules, responsibilities and overall code of conduct. Please check our website for providers of our crested items you may wish to purchase from the plain white tops and blue bottoms from the standard clothing shops. Please note that logos, stripes, jeans and denim are not acceptable as part of our dress code. Also please take some time to add your child’s name to their school attire and other personal items.

Our school office will be open from 9:00 to 3:00pm from July 4 to July 8th and then from August 31st to September 2 should you wish to contact us with any new information, questions or concerns.
