  • Three PA days devoted to Provincial Education Priorities and supporting Article 19 of the Collective Agreement.
  • One PA day devoted to Faith Development.
  • One PA day devoted to numeracy across the curriculum.
  • The remaining two PA days will be devoted to system priorities, annual learning plans and local goals articulated in the School Learning Improvement Plans.





School Year Calendar 2017-2018

The TCDSB school year calendar for 2017-2018 was approved by the Board at its’ regular meeting of March 30, 2017.
A detailed calendar for 2017-2018, outlining all Professional Activity (PA) days, statutory holidays, and dates of the Christmas and Mid-Winter Holidays is available at this link.  
Please review and kindly share this information with your school communities as soon as possible. You will find sample text for a letter to parents at this link. Please copy the letter on your school letterhead, date it and sign your name.
More details will be provided at a later time about the focus of each PA Day.  Please be sure to share plans for PA days with your staff, CSPC members and the broader school community well in advance of scheduled PA days. 
Ontario Regulation 304 “School Year Calendar, Professional Activity Days” under the Education Act, outlines the requirements for school boards in preparing and submitting school year calendars to the ministry.
Here is a summary of Reg 304, for your information:
·         school year calendar is the period between September 1 and June 30
·         must include a minimum of 194 school days, 
·         seven (7) of which must be PA days.
·         For 2017-2018, there are a possible 194 instructional days from September 5, 2017 to June 29, 2018.  The requirement of 194 instructional days are achieved by having the first school day on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 and the last school day on Friday, June 30, 2018.
·         A school year calendar must be prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Education, on or before May 1st of each school year.  This is in accordance with the Education Act and O. Regulation 304School Year Calendar, Professional Activity Days.
·         Please note that the first instructional day for students is Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
·         The seven (7) PA days for 2017-2018 are for the purposes identified on the Elementary and Secondary school year calendars.
·         The three (3) PA days devoted to provincial education priorities are distinct from the other four (4) PA days in that the criteria and topics to be covered during the three days are defined in Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) No. 151 and Mandatory PA days devoted to provincial education priorities document and are intended to support public confidence in the effective use of these three days.
