Toronto Catholic District School Board

Students from St. Benedict, St. Dorothy and St. Stephen’s Catholic Schools in Etobicoke are creating pieces of art for a commemorative mosaic to be unveiled at Etobicoke General Hospital in celebration of its 40th Anniversary on October 30th.
Students in the junior and intermediate grades at all three schools have been invited to create their own personal tribute to the hospital.  The project helped students express their personal or family experiences at the hospital.  Some may have been born at the hospital or may have been patients there at one time or another.
Art Resource Teacher, Maria Tavares, along with the students’ teachers, assisted with their creations, providing materials and inspiration.  The project stimulated meaningful conversations surrounding challenging moments in the students’ lives, prompting them to share their fears and pain, as well as the comfort they received at a difficult time.
