Arts Express: A Day of Storytelling

St. Dorothy's celebration of African Canadian heritage kicks off with Arts Express for a full day of storytelling.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade Five will listen to a professional storyteller share Jody Nyasha Warner’s book called “Viola Desmond won’t be budged.”

Children will learn about the Black Nova Scotian woman who was kicked out of a main stage theatre seat in 1946 because of the colour of her skin.  She was told to move to a balcony seat where the Black patrons were permitted to sit, but Viola refused to do so.
