St. Dorothy Students Represent Canada in International Basketball Tournament

Matera Italy Team

A group of grade four and five students from St. Dorothy School recently travelled across the Atlantic to compete in the 25th annual Internationale Minibasket in Piazza basketball tournament.  The tournament, held in Matera Italy featured sixty-four teams from across the globe. The boys were the only team from North America and represented Canada proudly winning five out of seven games. The team was ranked in the top five out of the entire tournament field.
This was an incredible experience and cultural exchange that will last a lifetime for these boys.  The treatment and attention that they received from the people of Italy was world class.  The boys met young players their age from across the globe and made many friendships.  Not only was this an athletic event but also an educational one as the team went on daily educational excursions. The highlight for these boys was to see the world heritage site of the “Sassi,” which is the city carved of stone that dates back to 8000 B.C.
These young boys from St. Dorothy displayed excellent behavior, respect and sportsmanship during their stay representing the TCDSB  and Canada with the utmost class.  Not to mention, their effort on the basketball court was truly inspiring and highly entertaining to watch. Well done boys!
