All Aboard!
TCDSB Elementary Students Compete in
4th Annual Cardboard Boat Races

The 4th Annual Elementary Cardboard Boat Race event was held on Tuesday, December 4th, at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School, 1515 Bloor Street West.

There were 20 teams from across the Toronto Catholic District School Board participating in construction, racing and weight challenges.

Teams of four intermediate students designed and constructed their boats in the morning, and then participated in both a speed and weight challenge in the swimming pool in the afternoon.

This event encourages leadership, team-work, math, technology and problem solving skills. Trophies were awarded to the top three teams, and they will go on to represent the TCDSB in the Skills Canada Cardboard Boat Race in January.

Cardboard for this event was geneerously donated by Atlantic Packaging Group, in Scarborough.
Participating schools are: Father Serra, Holy Angels, Holy Spirit, St. Raymond, James Culnan, Senhor Santo Cristo, St. Bede, St. Stephen, Holy Angels, St. Brendan, St. Dunstan, St. Jane Frances, St. Rita, St. Ursula, Prince of Peace, Transfiguration, Pope Pius X, Blessed John XXIII, St. Brigid, St. Ambrose and St. Bartholomew.

This year all teams were asked to donate new unwrapped items for Toy Mountain.

Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants.

James Culnan, St. Bede and St. Brendan will represent TCDSB at Skills Canada competition.
