Grade 5 Students Engage in 21st Century Learning

As a part of Computer Science Education Week, the St. Dunstan Grade 5 students participated in an exciting 21st Century learning workshop on Friday, December 13th 2019. The workshop was hosted by Apple Inc. and was centered around getting students future-ready through creative coding on iPads. Representatives from a non-profit organization called Hackergal, taught our students how to code using the Swift Playgrounds app. The students also brainstormed some solution based apps, designed a creative icon and presented their work to other students.

The goal of the day was to expose students to concepts such as coding and to understand that this type of technology is an integral part of our reality today – “coding is everywhere”. We hope that the experience sparked some interest in pursuing education and one day, jobs in the technological field. We are looking forward to seeing how coding can be brought into the classroom!
