Anonymous Donor Helps School Replace Stolen Statue

During the week of November 15th, a statue of St. Francis of Assisi that graced the front entrance of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School was stolen and never recovered by police.

Soon after it went missing, a gentleman visited the school and asked about the statue. He told school staff that he drives in from Hamilton along Clinton Street every day to his shop in Mirvish Village so that he can see the statue on his way to work.  He explained that he too is an animal lover, and that he has taken great comfort and inspiration from the visual reminder of the Saint every morning as he drove by.  He then donated $200 to assist the school with purchasing a replacement statue.

Inspired by his generosity, the school community went to work raising funds to subsidize the cost of a replacement.
Students, staff, families and the local parish celebrated the blessing of their new statue of St. Francis of Assisi on Friday, May 13th.
