Big Al's Aquarium

On Thursday, January 10, 2019, all of the grade 7 students travelled to Big Al's Aquarium for a fascinating hands-on experience to support the science curriculum. Alex, the expert leader, was extremely knowledgeable and informed students about interactions in ecosystems referring to various reptiles, birds and fish. He stressed the negative impact humans have on their environments (like the decline of clownfish and blue tangs in the world after the airing of "Finding Nemo") and the importance of being responsible pet owners. Highlights from the day included Darwin the talking Macaw, petting the sailfin dragon, blue-hooded rat and bunnies, watching neon glowing fish, the shark feeding and Alex dunking his arm into a tank filled with piranhas. Students were captivated by the unique science lesson and left the aquarium with a better understanding of creatures from around the world.
