Toronto Catholic District School Board

Prime Mentors of Canada

On Saturday, March 23, 2019, four SFA students attended the annual Prime Mentors Conference held at OISE - University of Toronto. Through various activities with students from other schools, they further developed leadership skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking, which align with the TCDSB's 21st Century Learning model. At the end of the engaging day, all participants were challenged to find an issue in their school community and, more importantly, to find an innovative solution. After consulting with her peers and toying with a few different ideas, Sofia G. submitted a proposal to add a water filtration system to ensure students have safe drinking water, and to promote the use of reusable water bottles to encourage SFA students to be better stewards of the earth. Fittingly, during Earth week, Sofia received word that her proposal had been selected from all of the entries. She was awarded $100, which will be applied to the implementation of her Community Building Project. A special thank you to Barbara Worth and Prime Mentors of Canada for supporting the SFA school community. Congratulations to Sofia G., Darin P. and Aidan S. for being the leaders of tomorrow!
