Prospect Cemetery

On Monday, November 12, 2018, on a brisk autumn day, the Grade 7 students participated in the excursion to Prospect Cemetery. Upon their arrival, they made their way to the World War I Cenotaph memorializing all of the Canadian Soldiers. The cenotaph was decorated with a variety of wreaths and poppies from the Remembrance Day ceremony from the previous day. After reflecting on scripture readings about peace and reciting the famous poem, "In Flanders Fields," everyone observed a moment of silence. Other memorable moments included an exploration and crayon rubbings of the various gravestones marking soldiers from different battalions and rankings such as corporals, sergeants, and lieutenants, as well as some nurses, reverends and drivers. This experience provided a unique, hands-on connection to the men and women who served our country, and hopefully, an appreciation of "strong and free" in Canada. Lest we forget.
